Recently, there has been a lot of chatter over Obamacare and Medicare draining the US government of its funds. It got me wondering: what about medical research funding? That took me to a site called ClinicalTrials.Gov, a registry and results database of publicly and privately supported clinical studies of human participants conducted around the world. The site is provided by the US National Institutes of Health. Basically it tells you what clinical studies are going on, who is funding it, and how to get in on it, should you want to be a human guinea pig. The interesting thing about it was that all of the tests I found (and yes, I searched for “anus” because I’m mature) related to drug testing. Which reminded me that Big Pharma spent 181 million bucks last year ALONE in lobbying. And that our drugs in the US are seriously fucked up. So why aren’t we talking about Big Pharma, if we are having this national conversation about medical care in the US? That’s what I’m talking about this week.
