Look Who’s a Nazi: Healthcare Nuts!
December 23, 2009 184 CommentsThe US of A has gone absolutely bonkers over healthcare. Man! What is the deal? People are totally up in arms over it! Is it because healthcare is a highly personal, important issue in people’s lives? I can relate to that. I mean, my insurance coverage is just AWFUL, absolutely, 100% rotten. I pay so much money to get basic services done, and I hate it. BUT! You still don’t hear me calling anyone a Nazi, or ranting like a lunatic at a town hall meeting. There’s not reason we should resort to these shouting matches, people. Especially when it’s really, really, really hard for us all to know the true facts behind Obama’s proposed healthcare reform legislation. There are so many rumors going around, and really we all just have hearsay to rely on because who the heck has time to read the grillion page mainfesto that is the proposed legislation? Honestly, right now there is just a ton of misinformation and name-calling and threats going around, and in the midst of it many of us in this country have really lousy healthcare. AND our country spends entirely too much money on the curret crappy system. So, the bottom line is that SOMETHING has to be done. Can’t we all agree on that one, for a sec? THEN, let’s take a look at the facts of what is really on the table here, and THEN we can start to figure out what should be done and what shouldn’t. Becausee no matter what, we SHOULDN’T be calling each other nazis, especially when we’re as ill-informed as we are about this proposed legislation.

[..YouTube..] USA has a very expensive healthcare insurance. What USA needs to do, is not invent the wheel again, but just copy the most efficient healthcare system in the world. The Dutch healthcare system (lowest costs/best healthcare). Health powerhouse 2010 index. Over 200 years of experience. USA just 1.

[..YouTube..] We can bicker and squabble about the mechanics of provision of a healthy, well-educated workforce (for instance, should it be a locally maintained thing or a federally maintained thing), but it’s pretty much a cold, hard fact that some of the things we currently view as private matters affect everyone by affecting the availability and relative efficacy of the labor pool. These include healthcare and education, there’s simply no way around that. Mechanically speaking we NEED public healthcare.

[..YouTube..] I would assume it’s reasonable to suggest that all people should pay in when public goods are concerned. Public goods are items which the population as a whole benefits from regardless of their relative individual contributions thereto. National defense, fire and police service, food safety, and environmental safety are prime examples. The public as a whole benefits from a well-functioning economy, and this is spurred by a healthy, well-educated workforce. Ante up, folks. Pay for public goods.

[..YouTube..] With or without insurance it’s expensive. I’ve resigned myself to the idea that if anything happens to me, I’m refusing healthcare. Let nature and cancer have it’s way with me. At least I’ll have a shit ton of money to blow (that I saved by not going to the doctor) and make my last few days pleasurable ones.
