Merry Consumer-mas, Everyone!
December 24, 2009 149 CommentsThis year’s Christmas Spectacular is dedicated to the one and only Reverend Billy Talen, whose movie “What Would Jesus Buy?” inspired me to go out and ask people just that. Every year around New York City, there are these Christmas markets where people hawk ridiculous items in hopes that people will buy them as Christmas presents for their loved ones. I hate these markets for several reasons. ONE: It’s freaking TOO COLD to be shopping outside! TWO: The crap that people sell at them are just that, crap. THREE: Why does this country go bananas with consumerism in the name of Jesus? Really, that’s the worst one, obviously. And that’s the one that the good Reverend is hung up about, too. Consumerism drives this country, which is no good for us in many ways, not the least of which is our distracting ourselves from what’s really important.
