One of the great things about living in New York City is that you’re constantly exposed to amazing people. It’s really freaking hard to live in a city where just getting your groceries home can involve almost getting run over, getting in arguments with people, and having your arms go numb from carrying all that weight. This kind of difficult living has led to the saying, “If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere,” and it also weeds out the people who thought it might be neat-o to live here but really aren’t cut out for it. The people who remain, then, are generally resilient and emboldened by truly interesting talents, drives, and ambitions. One such New Yorker is artist Jonny Detiger, who came to the Big Apple by way of the Netherlands. His work is intricate, involves the use of many different media, and inspires this New York resident tremendously. [..YouTube..] while “fast and furious” isn’t much more than a Sharpie mega-doodle, it actually pleases me quite a bit, and I think it looks great on a white wall. I would live with that piece.
but to be honest – playing “musical chairs” with speaker cabs that are triggered to the mute buttons on someone else’s crappy 4 track garage band song isn’t interesting or creative to me, in the least bit.

Reminds me of some of the swirling doodle art that I used to do in my history notebook at high school. The teacher was kind enough, or sarcastic enough, to grade my efforts at art and self expression. History is littered with bad people who do bad stuff, so I wanted all the badness to be surrounded by a force-field of luv and swirly doodle storytelling.
Dutch people get talked about relatively rarely and, of those I know, are quiet and extremely nice. Thanks for the heads up, I visited Detiger’s website, very enjoyable.

I’m just guessing here, but is the picture @4:25 about our separation from nature? That’s what it looks like to me. The guy is all alone in his pod observing a guy talking to rabbits. It’s as if he’s looking in despair at what he’s lost, but he hides his face because he’s in denial.

[..YouTube..] A lot of his art is conceptual and very well planned. The “comic-book” reference that someone made means that it fits into the art style of POP ART but in a post-modern way because in the past 40 years, anything goes in terms of genre.
I really enjoyed his work and I will look for him. I would love to represent him as I am an art dealer and historian.

Started posting here, eh Bike?!? Yeah it’s a nice new website. I noticed the old forum isn’t working yet. Myabe it’s too difficult to make it work eh? In that case, perhaps Rezzie should just ferget about the Old Forum an’ start a New one, eh? I don’t really need to read somethng I wrote 1 year ago. If I were her, I’d just create a bunch of brand new threads if she intendeds to keep that part of the website going. I’m sure there’s no shortage of people who want to create Brand New ‘Why people hate the USA’ threads. ;D
I suppose bringing the old forum over to a new webiste, is the equivalent of tyring to pour gasoline into a new hitech electric engine. It just doesn’t work. Old and new technologies (Wordpress vs. Joomla) aren’t necessary complementary with one another. Is that a proper anaology, Rezzie?

We’ll see, SuperD! Transferring a database takes some time apparently.
It’s still baking right now – as soon as it’s done, I’ll know if it worked or not. Could take a whole other day but I hope not…I’m hopeful though! It’s all still THERE – it just needs me to be able to make it appear.

Thanx for the reply, Rezzie. Yeah, I can see why you would have had to change the format of the website. WordPress, eh? Yeah, there’s been a real paradigm shift as far as the technology is concerned. I think OnceAPunAThyme mentioned that it has to be more in line with the new technologies like handheld devices, Twitter, Facebook. Plus a lot of people don’t even own a computer anymore, just use their iPhones for everything, so I s’pose the website has to reflect those changes. So the old model of everyone using a laptop or desktop has become dated. It’s the ‘Old’ World and may one day go the way of the dinosaur, eh?
The website seems a lot snappier, responsive and faster. Perhaps that’s a reflection of the new technologies out there? In the event that it’s too difficult to transfer the old forum, maybe just create a new one. Maybe put the old forum in an archive if people wanna view it and put a new one up which is compatible with and uses the formatting capabilities of WordPress. I dunno, just an idea.

…How about a show on the Changing Face of Journalism?
With all the newspapers going under, perhaps Websites run by independent journalists like the Resident will be the ‘Newspapers’ of the future?
Today there was a story out of Canada, that the Newspaper Conglomerate which owns a good chunk of the newspapers in the country, has filed for bankruptcy protection.

CanWest, which has over 1 billion in debt, can no longer pay its creditors. This might leave many towns and cities without a local newspaper. This follows the trend in the United States, where papers like the Seattle Post-Intelligencer had to shut down or merge with another due to bankruptcy.

So maybe it’s smaller papers or independent journalists who’ll rise from the ashes or pick up the pieces? Either that or companies like Google will snap them up all these papers and it’ll all become electronic tabloid journalism featuring or depending on News Feeds from independent journalists such the Resident.
