Mel Gibson is off his rocker. He started early on this path, as he himself has said that he started drinking at age, like, 2. Add a little superstar fame to that, and really, he never had a chance.
Add the fact that he’s an angry racist with the venom of an evil demon running through his veins to this mix, and, well, you’ve got the love story that the world is watching now in the summer of 2010. It ain’t pretty.
But it’s not entirely shocking to me, personally, because we all have known Mel is unhinged for a while. I think all of those guys are: Nicolas Cage, Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe – all those Hollywood heavy-hitters who starred in epics and were given tens of millions of dollars to pretend they were superhumans. I think all of those guys just must be inherently bonkers at this time.
The difference is that Mel is a bad, bad drunk who is not one of those quiet, sip himself into oblivion drunk kind of guys. No, Mel is the kind of drunk where he pounds a bunch of hard alcohol and then starts spouting stuff that comes from a demon, not from his own soul.
Or not. Maybe he has the soul of an asshole, could be. Doesn’t matter at the end of the day because now he is just an asshole who punches women and says they deserve to be raped.
And we’re all watching. It’s just all gross, this move, The Passion of the Mel Gibson, and I would like to stop watching it now. Can our pop culture please change the channel soon? I’d really appreciate it.

Ever since Mel Gibson made Passion of the Christ, certain elements in the media have been out to get him. And boy, just waiting for the right moment, they sure pounced on him when his guard was down. So, instead of overlooking his transgressions and personal flaws, the media has pointed them out for us. But if it’s someone else with a similar past of emotional tatrums/outbursts, these get overlooked, such as Brad Pitt with his wife, Angelina Jolie. I guess Mel shoulda stuck to harmless B-Grade action flicks and his reputation still might be intact.

This is definitely something that I feel the need to respond to.
I find it very interesting that ‘Designer’ points out “since Passion of the Christ, certain elements in the media have been out to get him. That Hollywood is run by Jewish people, is a given…and the film did stir up that sector. His outburst while drunk didn’t help anything for that matter. So, now the media are having a field day with this and have all jumped on the hype bandwagon of headline fodder parading around this guys dirty laundry. People say all kinds of wild things in confrontations. But when it’s something that was supposedly just between two people and one of them is famous it becomes more sensational. Mel Gibson has been targeted since the film. Yes being a celebrity does include being in the public eye…but this was a private telephone conversation. (How would each of us feel if our last argument were taped and released to be played over and over on the news?) These secretly taped private telephone conversations which are so clearly set up and one sided and now found everywhere in the media world, leave one to wonder more about Oksana Grigorieva. Grigorieva sounds detached…Gibson sounds furious, but broken.

Good point, opportunists fare disproportionately well in the legal system against the unstable people they antagonize.
But that this story got anywhere near the mainstream news, infuriates. That’s the real opportunism, of a once noble journalistic profession gone to HELL for ratings. Even our spineless gridlocked politicians jump to ‘news’ celebs whims for fear of not getting reelected. The year-after-year absurdity of viewers and gutless politicians arguing over selective misquotes as the country sinks. Why must willful fiction telling, interspersed by celebrity gossip, absorb minds that should be collectively concentrating on cheerfully pitching in and digging everyone out of this mess brought about by the ‘non chattering classes’? I am not saying there aren’t some wonderful journalists over there, just that their job is being made harder to do as the pressure to write bilge rises up to neck level.
Things do change when we write to the network’s sponsors saying we’ll boycott those sponsors products; demand change. Demand NEWS!

But, just as no one deserves to be raped, no one deserves to have their private interactions made public, so long as they don’t break the law. Celebrities, therefore, are saddled with the onus of being extremely careful of what they say to EVERYONE. Mel drinks and lets his guard down, and this girl is a conniving, contriving plotter to whom he is now forever beholden. (Since she beholden his baby.)

As I wrote earlier this is a non-topic. Once-Upon-A-Thyme explains why, well. …but I guess this is becoming paradoxical as it being a non-topic then becomes a point of converse.
I’ve never had faith in journalism during my life-time but I believe that there was a time when it was more reputable. On the occasions I’ve heard the question of ‘Why has the standard lowered?’ – it’s usually turned around to be the result of a dumber reader/audience. There’s truth in that. When idiots are a growing share of the market you can expect them to be catered for. I think we’ve generally seen a dumbing down in society so our news is only matching it.
I also agree with the Jewish/Christian observation.

—but that was the old Catholicism, Rezzie. Gibson’s mindset is a product of his time. Likely in White America/Australia where he grew up, where they were the majority & Catholics, Protestants and other denominations stuck to themselves, laden with the Old World Bigotry. It’s just that the times, technology have caught up with Gibson. But somehow, I think that way of thinking is still very prevelant. It’s just that it’s now pushed underground by political correctness. Gibson’s rants are what many people think, but don’t dare say in public.

She is usually pretty sharp about these things. If you compare the Bible and what it says about jews, to the Talmud and what it says about non-jews, there is no comparison. When Mel Gibson told his ex she deserved to be raped it was in reference to the way she was dressed and places would frequent.
