This is really cool. The Water Pod is a barge floating around New York City where a handful of artists work and live completely autonomously. That is, they filter their own water, grow their own food, and barter for anything else they might need with services or other goods. The residents of the Water Pod are testing an alternative to land for people to live on in the event that we need to start living elsewhere – whether it be through floods caused through climate change, glacial melting, or anything else. As they float around the city, they dock and visitors can board to learn about their mission and inner workings. If a visitor wants to learn how to make their own water purification system, the Water Pod can teach that. If a visitor wants to learn about composting…ditto. A really interesting blend of art, education, and science.

frucking permits, goddamned government interference in every aspect of our bloody lives. Why the hell would you need a permit to have chickens on a boat int he middle of a harbour? Peaceful resistance. Don’t act like little kiddies needing permission for everything, licences for lawful acts, (marriage FFS!) They can all stick their application forms where the sun don’t shine.

Don’t worry, yo! I’ve just found a great way to rise your confidence in future. Start to do smth yourself. Ride a bicycle, waste less PVHs, grow your own plants etc. Do something what can realy help to preserve our land. Even if it would be the micro=part in relation with global scale – just do it and be sure it gona be better!

i know this sounds typical, but the reason the world would be getting colder is because if the ice caps melt that much they disrupt the ocean currents which have a big effect on the temperature of some areas. and also where im from (scotland) it has gone from being snowy all winter, to snowing about 3 days a year. all in the space of 40 years.

I look at the sat views of the ice caps every week and they are not melting. Also NY had the coolest summer since 1929. Read something besides Al Gores book. Try Unstoppable global warming every 1500 years, The deniers, Eco Freaks, Climate of Extremes. This names a few. Please do your homework before you challenge me, I studied Global warming for the last 4 years. I have read all sides of the issue and it is all about control and money. We need to be Americans not D or R.
