From then till now something went wrong. Parents told their kids that they are above that I guess?
In the mid 80’s I lost 2 jobs because my employers figured out that the price to pay me, they can hire 2 illegals for the same $
1st job was in construction. Worked 2 years to get to $7.50 an hour.
2nd was throwing trash for GI rubbish.
Almost up to $9.00 an hour.
Too bad for me.

But a lot of the time you see immigrants breaking the law, or turning to a life of crime via drugs or otherwise to get money. I think that’s why a lot of people have a bad taste in their mouth when it comes to immigrants.
I say: they should be monitored and as soon as they break the law, deport them back. If they aren’t contributing to the country, why the hell SHOULD you take them on in the first place?

2. Make an ultimatum. Go home or pay double taxes for 7 years if you want to become an American citizen.
3. Those who go home will get the same opportunities as those who want to legally immigrate.
4. Those who do not go home and do not pay taxes will be deported with no chance to return.
There’s a lot more but that’s the jist of it. No free rides but no closed doors either.

USA should change its immigrations laws, Rezzie.
1. Citizenship should not be granted to inidividuals entering the US illegally. Instead, they should be given the option to register as temporary workers on 1 year renewable visas. Those who do not, would be deported if they did not register within a 6 month time frame. All those domestics, burger flippers, construction workers would be granted a status as non-citizens who could work in the United States within a restricted job and wage class, and they could not take jobs away from American citizens in more highly skilled sectors. Such visas would not be a path to US citizenship for the visa holder orfor their children, but would allow them access to public healthcare and education as feepayers at a higher rate. eg- like foreign students paying higher tuition rates to attend public schools. Their fees would help subsidize proposed public health insurance, and public schools which are badly in need of additional funds.
The only exception to granting citizenship for this visa class are for a limited number of individuals or their children who serve in the US military forces. Since the US has this tendency to get involved in wars, this might be a useful mechanism to have a ready supply of recruits for the military. Perhaps this seems like a draconian measure, but on the other hand, it would ensure that citizenship or personal residency and the benefits which go along with it, would truly be ‘earned’, and the individual who gained citizenship through this path would appreciate its value and not take it for granted.
2. Citizenship should not necessarily be granted by birthright. So an illegal alien who came to the United States specifically to give birth so that their kids would gain American citizenship would be denied that right. Instead, citizenship by birth would only be conferred upon registered visa holders such as J, H and Green Card types. I think that’s the way it is in Europe. In many of those countries, a person does not necessarily become a citizen because they were born there, but their citizenship is assigned by that of their parents’ origin.
I’ve seen this in Canada, where some people have come in illegally or are here without status, give birth to kids here, and then see this as a path to gain entry into the country and gain citizenship for their Kids. But our country, like the United States, should cut off this loophole and reserve citizenship only for registered visa holders of certain designations.

When I lived in the States over 10 years ago, I manged to secure a couple of work visas each on 1 year renweable terms. But I couldn’t collect social benefits. Nor was I eligible for state programs. Plus I was restricted to the kinds of jobs I could apply for. They were just temporary jobs or 1 yr. contracts. I wasn’t eligible for permanent jobs, which required an H-1 Visa or a Green Card.
Even with a legal status, I noticed at the time that Americans were becoming wary of foreigners and fearful of them taking their jobs. I thought Americans were starting to turn inwards, becoming isolationist. They were friendly and allowed me work there, but seemed somewhat resentful that I was there. Probably they thought I was taking a job away from an American even though I was only there on contract & looked/acted like the average American. And that was in Good Times. Can’t imagine what it must be like now, with their recession, War on Terror, etc. It must be extremely tight & about the only people they probably admit are PhDs or professional athletes.
Despite all the immigration bureaucracy I wen through back then, I’m glad I spent time in the States. It was time and money well spent. If I had to do it all over, I’d do it again. It was a great time of my life. Very happy and carefree. I owe my current livelihood in Canada to the training and work experience I’d received in the States. ‘Same time, the USA was much freer and more prosperous back then. More politically stable, too.

If individuals are breaking our laws to be here, then export they should be jailed or exported. Simple as that. We all have to obey our laws. That’s why they are made as laws. If we don’t follow those laws, and are caught, then we have to pay the penalty of that law. That includes exporting immigrants here illegally.

Amnesty would have the same effect as it did when we did it 20 years ago. It will just encourage even more illegal immigration. Since the feds obviously cannot handle it, even with a budget that is 25% of the GDP, the states should enforce the law. AZ today, Texas and New Mexico tomorrow.

[..YouTube..] No, they should not. The first thing they did crossing our borders undocumented was, technically, breaking the law. Many Americans have been unemployed because of the recession, and I’m willing to bet that the jobs “that no American will do” will be filled real fast. When people are desperate for a job, they’ll do anything. Myself included. Not to mention the fact that at least some of the money they make gets sent out of the country to their families.. Doesn’t help our economy much, does it?
