I read an interesting article this week about a proposed ban on burqas in Belgium, and it raised a lot of questions in my noggin. Which was unexpected, because honestly, burqas are just soooo foreign to me, a woman who likes to do these kinds of things, that my noggin has always just kind of written burqa-wearing off as something un-knowable to me.
How could I possibly formulate an educated opinion about something so foreign to me? How can any of us, when it comes as such an extreme? I mean, in our culture, we encounter chicks with their buns and boobies out all the time, in various formats. How are we possibly going to understand a burqa? I know lots of people have lots of strong opinions about them, though. So I guess it’s a topic worth thinking about a bit more.
And, also, now this Belgian is bringing up yet another issue about them – a new one for me, at least, who always just wonders if it’s hot under a burqa. Daniel Bacquelaine, the Belgian who proposed the bill, says it’s not fair to let some members of society walk around all covered up and covert-like. He’s saying the burqa is unfair to society, not to the woman underneath it.
Is it? Is the burqa fair…to anyone?
April 2nd, 2010 at 4:03 pm
Okay, just my 2 cents, but, who fucking cares?
April 2nd, 2010 at 5:09 pm
Europeans banning the burqa is just thinly veiled racism!
April 3rd, 2010 at 8:42 am
[..YouTube..] the more clothing we can get off girls the better. less ban everything
April 3rd, 2010 at 8:44 am
[..YouTube..] It’s funny. Our politicians (yes, I’m Belgian myself) want to ban this type of clothing, but on the women’s end they’re more or less forbidden to wear anything else. It should really be the woman’s choice whether she wants to wear that or not, so I really don’t understand what the fuss is all about, from either side.
April 3rd, 2010 at 9:00 am
[..YouTube..] only ugly women should be forced to wear Burqas and banned from public places :0)
April 3rd, 2010 at 9:42 am
[..YouTube..] For me, it is religious intolerance. If they are not hurting other people rights by wearing burqas, then we should not hurt their right to wear whatever they want.
April 3rd, 2010 at 9:51 am
[..YouTube..] The proposed ban is clearly biased against Islamic religion. By rationalizing the ban, the anti-Muslim measure masks a repressive measure against one religion by coming down on one of its customs. This is opportunity to intensify an anti-Muslim climate. All religions are patriarchal. That is the experience and history of all religions. If ALL religions were gone, we would see a much equal & liberating society throughout the world. Until then, we should not tolerate the anti-Muslim trend.
April 3rd, 2010 at 9:58 am
[..YouTube..] Hey! U should conduct an interview regarding the new bill proposed in the Indian parliament that is planning to allow american universities to open campuses in India. It is an interesting topic.
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:00 am
[..YouTube..] It is very difficult to say. There are many elements in this discussion which cannot fit in 500 characters. There are points for and against the ban, but if I had to give an opinion, this ban is unconstitutional and is the extreme opposite of the ideals the EU is founded upon.
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:02 am
[..YouTube..] Good to see you Lori! I was really concerned after that last Screw It video.
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:09 am
[..YouTube..] You should talk about how Muslim parents (fathers) are trying to keep their daughters out of schools in Europe. Should we tolerate that? We have fought for centuries in western societies for our civil liberties. Using tolerance to excuse and ignore such an oppressive tool is pure laziness, and it makes me sick. We should be proud of our culture which has finally begun to allow women their voice (let alone their face). I applaud European leaders who are standing up for their INDIGENOUS culture.
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:10 am
[..YouTube..] @dlunas81 uh just wow what u mean cool reply i guess
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:14 am
[..YouTube..] oooh look at me I’m a western white woman .. imitate me and show some cleavage you burqa wearing woman!! be more like me .. please. I’m obviously having fun and you are not .. and that makes me sad
how do you refute this argument?
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:15 am
[..YouTube..] @FD87 absolutely true LOL
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:16 am
[..YouTube..] @vespaUK125 that’s pretty harsh man
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:19 am
[..YouTube..] this is non sense, are you serious because she can see me but I can’t see her. therefore, she should not wear the burqa. absolutely nonsense and pretty ridiculous argument.
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:25 am
[..YouTube..] no its not fair, Ban those damn things
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:37 am
[..YouTube..] @MrBrewIV Exactly!
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:38 am
[..YouTube..] so this belgian guy claims he wants transparency. i call B.S. the belgian argument could never govt. support, because the existence of govts. depend on some people getting special treatment based on their positions. secrecy is a very important part of that. if you knew who all the people who worked for the government are, they would have no power. he is a hypocrite and a clown.
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:42 am
[..YouTube..] i don’t want the burqa to be part of my life, i can’t understand it nor do i want to, but that has nothing to do with the women who wear them. no point in getting into that.. but it is going to have to be the case that until someone in a burqa gives us a reason to want to ban them, they can’t be banned. so the message to burqa wearers is: don’t @#$% up, or you lose the burqa.
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:42 am
[..YouTube..] @GottaLoveMel If she is actually choosing it that’s one thing. But likely she is compelled to wear it by the oppressive and coercive mandates of a patriarchal religion that is not free choice. Why don’t male Muslims wear Burka’s if its all about “modesty” towards God or does God simply single females out for that sort of attention?
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:43 am
[..YouTube..] @LalitaLilly “sometimes i like to wear a crucifix. ” There is the difference. Personal choice. There isn’t a Catholic mandate to wear a crucifix because of “modesty”.
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:54 am
[..YouTube..] Where do we draw the line in this “Freedom of Choice” argument? I work for a school board in Ontario and some Muslim women cannot leave the house when their husbands are away. The men are open about this oppression. We tolerate this brutal treatment because of “multiculturalism” which is against our Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It is part of their “tradition” we are told to deny them their fundamental rights. In Toronto Muslim girls are assualted or kiiled for being “Western” by males.
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:57 am
[..YouTube..] I agree with one part of your argument. But woman are suffering terribly under Islam and they need our active involvement not left to the 5th century cruelty of Islam.
April 3rd, 2010 at 10:59 am
[..YouTube..] @marinex84 The women are being hurt by this ridiculous male pseudo religious custom. Read some of the articles written by female Muslim social activists to understand the deeperramifications of this oppression.
April 3rd, 2010 at 11:01 am
[..YouTube..] “but on the women’s end they’re more or less forbidden to wear anything else. It should really be the woman’s choice whether she wants to wear that or not, so I really don’t understand what the fuss is all about, from either side. “The “fuss” is exactly what you said up above-they are “forbidden” to wear Western clothes and are forced to wear a black bee keepers outfit.
April 3rd, 2010 at 11:04 am
[..YouTube..] @thwipp I disagree. People should be free to wear whatever they want in public, as long as they remain identifiable. It’s ridiculous to freely allow people to hide their identity in a modern society. Who knows what kind of sick person might be hiding under a burka. Could be the next Ted Bundy for all I know.

April 5th, 2010 at 7:03 pm
[..YouTube..] burqa = joke
April 5th, 2010 at 7:48 pm
[..YouTube..] @alaskafido that say must be from the same person who said, you dont want to be so closed minded you brain doesnt get any oxigen and it dies.
April 5th, 2010 at 9:44 pm
[..YouTube..] What’s the situation on women with burqas and going into banks?
April 5th, 2010 at 10:50 pm
[..YouTube..] Freedom of religion is a constitutional right, and every American is quite welcome to practice whichever religion they want, in their homes and their places of worship. However, when someone wearing a burka steps into a bank, or a shop, or a school or even a busy subway station, by completely hiding their identity they are infringing on the civic rights of others. Although an outright ban is unconstitutional, certain restrictions on face coverings are most certainly required.
April 6th, 2010 at 12:50 am
[..YouTube..] Wow, you only responded one time? I know life is busy but do you interact with your subscribers? I am new to your site and wondered if you just post a video and let others discuss amongst themselves and really do not engage with anyone? I am just wondering?
April 6th, 2010 at 12:54 am
[..YouTube..] There are so many religious practices that we don’t allow in our society such as genital mutilation and polygamy because they’re in different ways abusive practices that go against our core humanistic values. Yet we don’t consider ourselves bigots for banning them. When a woman says that she likes wearing a burqa I wouldn’t just take her word for it, specially when the consequences of not complying with it can go from repudiation to death. Treating women like livestock should be banned.
April 6th, 2010 at 3:19 am
[..YouTube..] I could have read this anywhere and not had your stupid annoying voice stuck in my head. Your just telling about the news with stupid facial expressions. Die.
April 6th, 2010 at 9:10 am
[..YouTube..] I get it. I will answer myself since you do not engage with anyone really here on youtube. I see a few comments but you will not do it and will not answer anyone asking you if you ever comment or why it is so infrequent or whether you ever will. I am sorry but it feels like you maybe are burned out? I recently found someone else who engages with their subscribers. So, what is the point really?
April 6th, 2010 at 9:14 am
[..YouTube..] @STILLNAKEDBULLWINKLE So, take as food for thought but I have the feeling you could care less either way, right? I enjoy your videos but you come across either self absorbed to the point that you will not respond to anyone who even offers a question or possibly even look down upon people who try. Is this the New Yorker way? Not mine.
April 6th, 2010 at 9:16 am
[..YouTube..] @STILLNAKEDBULLWINKLE I will be moving on and dropping my subscription. Good day and good luck.
April 6th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
[..YouTube..] The police has to see your face to identify you. If women won’t take off their burqa, they can not be identified, which can be dangerous. (terrorism). I think women are allowed to wear burqas, if they are willing to take them off when necessary, even in public. Most of them won’t take them off. Rules like the one in Belgium are necessary in that case.
April 6th, 2010 at 4:15 pm
[..YouTube..] @VuDu4000 and that is what us “tea party” nuts are fighting for. To bring freedom back to America. We do not want to be like Europe and have a nanny state. And harm none and do what you will.

[..YouTube..] You ready for a real challenge? why don’t you do a topic on Obama’s use of the drones to kill terrorists. When Bush was president, he was called a war criminal for use of drones. Now, Obama has increased their use, drones, to about two a week and the far left is now complaining but has not called obama a war criminal. Is it a war crime to kill a terrorists with a drone?
April 6th, 2010 at 11:21 pm
[..YouTube..] there is a ban on some people being masked, like the kkk, but no ban on ordinary cops donning black masks and wreaking terror on people. if we have a ban on masked menaces, let’s make it universal.

April 7th, 2010 at 1:53 pm
[..YouTube..] Religion is fake but free speech is good.. its there right to able to wear what they want.
April 7th, 2010 at 10:51 pm
[..YouTube..] lets be honest. with that black # u got on there, i’m not hearing a word you say. Whatever it was, I agree!
April 7th, 2010 at 11:22 pm
[..YouTube..] I dont like the burqa but by banning it the Belgian government is basically ordering some women to disrobe just because they dont like what they chose to wear. I like that idea even less
April 8th, 2010 at 1:00 am
[..YouTube..] i think its a giant heap of religious intolerance! the same is happening in Quebec here in Canada and I think this goes against the values or multiculturalism and tolerance that we so pride ourselves with in the 21st century. the hijab (burqa is an Afghani item of clothing that covers the woman- the hijab on the other hand is the headscarf that you see most women wearing) is a a choice in Islam, and i dont see how it offends women as Sarkozy would suggest, it never took away from their beauty.
April 8th, 2010 at 2:57 pm
[..YouTube..] shame on u
April 8th, 2010 at 8:43 pm

April 8th, 2010 at 10:27 pm

April 9th, 2010 at 9:52 am
[..YouTube..] Brooklyn Girl ; -)
April 9th, 2010 at 10:10 am
[..YouTube..] I’m in favor of banning as little as possible. No ban on burqas. No ban on marijuana. No ban on guns. Etc.Laws should protect that grey area where one person’s rightsviolate another person’s rights. Beyond that, the laws themselvesare a violation of rights. By the way, you DON’T have the right to see people even when theycan see you. Take for an example the window from your apartment…
April 9th, 2010 at 10:33 am
[..YouTube..] We can ban the burka because of identification duty, functionality.. safety in public spaces or because of non-personal authority. Communicationrules at schools, laws that count for public manifestations.
April 9th, 2010 at 9:10 pm
[..YouTube..] People should get more involved in their community. If you asked the people wearing the burkas the reasons behind it you’s have more insight. It’s most likely a male controll thing. There are some fundementalist Christians in my area who won’t let women speak in church. That’s in the same category.
April 10th, 2010 at 1:10 pm
[..YouTube..] Telling people what to wear and what not to wear is wrong no matter how you feel. I hate to say it but they used the term Liberal and Fair and it equals communism. I would like to see a society that just respects each other and not forcing laws to make them.

[..YouTube..] @chrile Oh right nice comparison , sunglasses cover your eyes, burqa’s cover every part of your body.. idiot..
April 11th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
[..YouTube..] @Wylfred well said
April 11th, 2010 at 3:58 pm
[..YouTube..] @Crooswijker010 I didn’t say sunglasses was the same as burqa. I ment that if the argument was that it should be illegal for people to wear something where they can see you, but you can’t see them, then by that reasoning sunglasses too should be made illegal… Idiot..
April 13th, 2010 at 2:35 am
[..YouTube..] The burqa serves a metaphysical role (as well as a physical one). It’s a crutch for women; it’s a veil of sorts for her body, but also reminds her to keep a veil on her sights. She, if genuinely wearing a burqa for the right reasons, will not be looking at you with any eye greater than that to acknowledge your presence.Should a seeing person be banned from all gatherings of blind people?Should it be illegal to be fully clothed at a nudist beach? or attend a masquerade ball w/o a masque?
April 13th, 2010 at 6:55 pm
[..YouTube..] The wearing of the Burka is less the point than having them feel compelled to wear it by others (chiefly other Muslims) who pressure them to remain hidden from the eyes of others regardless of the apparent rights they may be given by our society as a whole. The wearing of the burka is protected under freedom of expression here in the US (countries like the EU similarly protect those rights); and how hypocritical would we be if we banned a symbol of a religion (no matter how horrible to us).
April 13th, 2010 at 6:55 pm
[..YouTube..] We, as free nations simply need to engender an atmosphere of protection of those freedoms so one may CHOOSE to walk away from the burka if THEY so desire. Perhaps stronger services to help the social alienation they may encounter from the other Muslims they know.
April 14th, 2010 at 12:15 am
[..YouTube..] Ok men create things like the burka. If society were run by women, men would be walking around in tight shorts/jeans and women could stare at a mans body (like men stare at a woman chest) and it be excused as “women will be women”. The USA society doesn’t understand there social power over each other, but those that profit in that society understand all to well. Things should be balanced, but they are not. The hunter rules. The real value of things should be based on who gives birth to life.
April 14th, 2010 at 4:06 pm
[..YouTube..] The French Society and Belgium Society are different and have different views/ arguments or cultural reasons for taking their own sovereign political, economic, or social direction. As a nation of people they can decide what is right or wrong for them. At one time the US felt it was morally right to nuke a country now we feal it is morally right to get rid of nukes…. both are valid for the time in question
April 14th, 2010 at 4:13 pm
[..YouTube..] @PariahOlympics There is nothing in the Koran that mentions the burka. It is not a religious symbol. It is a cultural tradition. A paper bag covering the boosom and head would serve the same purposes of the Koran as a Burka. A country has the right to choose its direction. Laws reflect the general populations beliefs and a Constitution reflect the core values. History shows people are not static: core values can change so can constitutions. This is happening in Kyrgistan right now
April 14th, 2010 at 11:19 pm
[..YouTube..] respect others beliefs is what i say, let them modernize on their own most families are 1st gen here and will modernize with their future generations quit imposing laws and rules which will just piss them off to fight against it and make it a personal issue. cultures that have been in usa for over 50 years have blended in and so will they over time….
April 16th, 2010 at 9:42 am

April 16th, 2010 at 2:04 pm

April 17th, 2010 at 3:25 pm
[..YouTube..] Great point Belgians! Although there may be a few happy burqa clad women I’m sure most of them feel oppressed and would be outcast from their families (and/or beat, killed) if they exercised personal freedom and showed their face in public. When a cultural value is highly oppressive, should we say “well, just respect their culture…”? Or should we say “let’s take a stand for those on whom this cultural value is being forced upon”? Thanks for bringing awareness to this interesting topic!
April 17th, 2010 at 10:25 pm
[..YouTube..] I can’t believe Sarkozy said that. Let the women decide for themselves what gives them dignity. If they are dignified in the fact that they only reveal their beauty to whom they choose, then more power to them.
April 18th, 2010 at 4:00 pm
[..YouTube..] @good2goski I agree a paper bag would serve as well…but cultural traditions make up what religions are not just doctrineconfessions and chaste priests are much the same….there’s nothing in the bible that ‘proclaims’ them as necessary yet its part of Catholicism. I personally despise the practice of the burka and how culturally it came about; but Muslims have the right the tradition…IF (cant stress this enough) those individuals wish it…a woman pressured into it isnt desiring it herself.
April 18th, 2010 at 4:24 pm
[..YouTube..] @good2goski Also laws may become reflections of belief through the negotiation of their drafting but they are there to provide protection and entitlements to constitutionally established rights (freedom of expression, religion etc). Others will do it differently but democratic nations should always live by the motto “I may not agree with what you say but ill fight to the death for your right to say it expression isnt to be restricted if it doesnt willfully hurt others rights and they wish it.
April 18th, 2010 at 4:25 pm
[..YouTube..] @good2goski UGH…..is this word limit annoying anyone else?
April 18th, 2010 at 5:36 pm
[..YouTube..] @PariahOlympics Like I say…laws and constitutions are man-made, and ‘men’ have historically proven to change their minds of what is right/wrong, free/oppressed, valuable/unworthy. As far as what “democratic nations should live by”, those nations can decide what their moto should be NOT you or me. Most of these countries have a far more mature culture than the USA, and see the world differently than the USA.
April 18th, 2010 at 5:47 pm
[..YouTube..] @PariahOlympics Furthermore…..this idea of fighting/killing for the values of the few over the vast majority of the population…. is simply arrogant and disrepectful to the values of the general population. What about the country’s right to choose its cultural face? This USA-centric style of right/wrong democracy has gotten the USA in trouble, and is one of the reason why we are hated, abd perhaps a major reason why the USA is in decline
April 19th, 2010 at 7:09 pm
[..YouTube..] Sunshine needs to get to the body just as air and atmosphere too. Patriarchal powers and subjugation just about sum it up.Everyone should wear Bruce Springsteen T-Shirts.
April 20th, 2010 at 3:04 pm
[..YouTube..] It’s religious intolerance … let them wear what they want … the women believe it is part of their religion and culture so society should respect that. It is similar to banning the wearing of a cross ..etc. The french should be the last people to argue against it with their secularism, religion and religious intolerance should not be part of the laws of any country.
April 23rd, 2010 at 10:49 am
[..YouTube..] Yes no more street Ninja’s!!!
April 24th, 2010 at 1:03 pm
[..YouTube..] You should be able to wear whatever the hell you want. Except maybe a mullet. Or fur. Or clothes from to 70’s. Or a low-cut shirt that might cause some poor unsuspecting soul to rape you. Hmmmm… anything else? Oh yeah. You shouldn’t be allowed to wear a bomb strapped around yourself. At least not in public. What do you think?!!!
April 24th, 2010 at 2:40 pm
[..YouTube..] ban the burqas………why should one persons idea of what is right be allowed to roughshod over the majority…..plus Ive got loads of other reasons for banning the burqua and the people wearing them
April 25th, 2010 at 12:35 am
[..YouTube..] look, the burqa is SO easy to hide a bomb under. In Israel and Europe, where terrorism and bombings are more of a norm, banning the burqa makes sense. It doesn’t make it right, but it sure does make it a lot harder for someone to strap a bomb to their chest and kill a train full of innocent civilians. I’m all for women getting to wear their hijabs, but until terrorism stops in Europe, I can understand why Euro nations are going this way…
April 25th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
[..YouTube..] no one in civilized society such as ours.(the west) should be allowed to walk in public with their face covered using religion as a reason only those with something to hide or bank robbers wear masks…..stop being a pratt and see what is going on in our *free countries. It is because you live in a free country that you can talk such drivelMichael
April 26th, 2010 at 12:01 pm
[..YouTube..] you can’t go into a bank or a 7-11 with a mask, even on halloween… but you can wear a burqa anywhere, anytime..maybe hiding a bomb..hiding the fact you’re actually a man…concealing an ak..3 small children..a mini cooper..or whatever..does’nt seem fair…makes me want to start an anti-law religion..whereas our religious beliefs are based on exactly the opposite of any law enacted by man..hey, freedom of religion ok
April 26th, 2010 at 1:42 pm
[..YouTube..] Basically, I believe it will have the opposite effect of what people are describing will come from a complete ban. It is likely to push them even further to the margins of society. And in the great scheme of things in any given country in Europe and certainly in America, muslims are a minority community and the woman who choose to wear the burqa are a minority in a minority. Is it really worth making a law over, and given people reason to get pissed off and feel more divided. I think not.
April 26th, 2010 at 1:55 pm
[..YouTube..] I have to agree with both reasons for wanting to ban, but I think in banning them the “cure” would be more oppressive than the “disease”.
April 26th, 2010 at 5:03 pm

April 27th, 2010 at 2:46 am
[..YouTube..] oh yes a good way to hide my identity at a 7-11 and a good way to get yourself killed by a muslim zelot ….if you’re discovered its off with your head..muslims are divided from mainstream society by their choice not by outside forces..ever try to reason with a unreasonable person??

[..YouTube..] Maybe you should ask the other side what they think about you having your tits out and then you might understand why preserving our “western” ideas in relation to dress is important.
April 27th, 2010 at 4:16 pm
[..YouTube..] @gbbmmfic well, WELL. I think you SHOULD have used three DOTS instead OF four ha ha I’m not even sure we disagree on the issue…. so good point
Have a NICE day
April 27th, 2010 at 7:09 pm
[..YouTube..] While i dont agree with how women are treated in some religions, I respect their right to practice their religion how they see fit so long as it does not harm others – we start creating laws to govern expression of religion down to the very clothes we wear – we will all truly lose some of our most precious freedoms.
April 27th, 2010 at 8:16 pm
[..YouTube..] @WendyViolet1 the dots are totally ad-lib….as is my thinking and they both depend on the amount of coffee i’ve had…nice talking with you…

April 29th, 2010 at 2:05 pm
ask a 3rd grader that if someone hits him in the face, what would like to do in return, the answer is the very obvious,a hit in the face… so if the burqa women see all the ppl out there and they dont let u see them, why do u uncover them! cover yourself and dont show yourself to them (i know some of you are thinking abt guys now)
and i guess there are other violent things to be banned rather than just burqa.. i see it as pure racism.. ban guns and drugs and loads of other stuff..
April 30th, 2010 at 9:20 am
[..YouTube..] Here in the UK we had a ban many years ago on wearing hooded jackets in Super Markets due to “hoodlums” stealing things and making trouble in the SuperMarkets, yet, Burqa-tards can wear them all they want. And, the funny part is, near me, three people wearing Burqa’s have shop-lifted, and none have been caught yet… It’s a disgrace to society.
April 30th, 2010 at 1:53 pm
[..YouTube..] Since “there is not computation in religion” people can do whatever they choose to do by the right of freewill. But the people who choose do certain thing have reasons which are not to be judged by others who do not understand them and do not share the same perspective. Rather than trying to judge them from a different perspective people should should ask questions to understand a foreign perspective. At the end, It is a matter of both intellect and spirit for both the parties.
April 30th, 2010 at 2:24 pm
[..YouTube..] If you are going to support the banning of articles of clothing then, it might be a good idea to actually try constructing an intelligent argument. rather than reduce the issue to a game of infantile peekaboo… —>. Peekaboo (also spelled Peek-a-boo) is a game played with babies. In the game, the older player hides their face, pops back into the baby’s view, …
April 30th, 2010 at 6:45 pm
[..YouTube..] Oh you moderates and your let it be attitude. I think ppl should look intowhy women are really wearing the burka. In religious controlled countrieslike Saudi Arabia and Iran, women can beaten, stoned and killed for notwearing a tent of fabric. and the same can happen if they protest it. all for the sake of “modesty” aka control. those who say they want to wearit are living under fear.
April 30th, 2010 at 6:50 pm
[..YouTube..] even outside the religious control areas there are honor killings. they know it,we know it so there has to be a message sent that in open progressive soceities that bullshit doesnt fly here.
April 30th, 2010 at 7:37 pm
[..YouTube..] @0Gimmick this has nothing to do with this topic so why bring it up?
April 30th, 2010 at 11:35 pm
[..YouTube..] I think we should become intolerant of all intolerance and judge people who are judgmental. I also think we should analyze why Lori is so overly-analytical about religion. Could it be that even with that Catholic school upbringing and though she claims to be a Buddhist, she knows deep down that there is something lacking spiritually in her worldview?Long live righteous intolerance!

May 3rd, 2010 at 8:29 am
[..YouTube..] @0Gimmick Yes. lets show them just how willing WE are place our own freedoms into a state of subjugated self immolation by banning clothes. you know, curtailing the west’s freedoms is exactly what the extremists had in mind. I think they may have factored for us being confused enough to do the job for them.
May 5th, 2010 at 7:29 pm
[..YouTube..] Both the Frenchman & Belgian have points. But the Belgian’s argument, without much stretch of effort, extends to closed-circuit surveillance. Any thoughts on this, TheResident?
May 6th, 2010 at 10:37 pm
[..YouTube..] why don’t you wear it for that isa the right dress and modest of all. wear the burqa in full lenght.
May 8th, 2010 at 1:59 am
[..YouTube..] In the burqa u can cover ur face its better but the muslim ladies have the right to show their faces and just cover their heads and bodies so if people have a problem with it than they can simply say that how about wear the burqa but dont cover up the face cuz its allowed
May 8th, 2010 at 10:55 am
[..YouTube..] @wbmxx Would it bring about a ban on Hallowe’en costumes and masquerade balls? Dark sun glasses, funeral veils, and low hanging hats? Excessive facial hair? … Not that I defend the idea of Burqas, but the logic of the Belgian argument is flawed as you point out.
May 8th, 2010 at 4:15 pm
[..YouTube..] Totally unfair if some people can cover their face but others can’t based on religion. Sick of this crap, I don’t bash muslims but something has to change if you want to actually be. an . American.

[..YouTube..] She said Sarkozi very frenchly for a fellow(?) pole.
May 8th, 2010 at 6:29 pm
[..YouTube..] No body should be ashamed of their body man that’s why I’m against burkas and etc. And if men don’t have to wear them why do us women have to?
May 10th, 2010 at 4:09 pm
[..YouTube..] @MySquare475 In my layman’s opinion, it certainly could extend to Hallowe’en due to the religious context. Elsewhere? I don’t know. Every nation has too much invested into their intelligence/spy communities to completely eliminate disguises. In Canada, we already have laws regarding aftermarket tinting of front seat windows. And the slippery slope could extend to wigs (cancer victims), toupees, makeup; even overlarge eyeglasses make people unrecognizable. I honestly doubt it’ll go that far.
May 13th, 2010 at 12:37 pm
[..YouTube..] I don’t agree with the video – still I like it. What a temptation, what a masterly manipulation a male urges – go wear the burqa – I can’t take it any longer to watch you without …..
peace, peaceful bliss….

[..YouTube..] @XElizabethxAmiraX ı know that men have to cover their penises but they still get to wear whatever they but women can’t show a strand of hair? How is that fair?
May 17th, 2010 at 6:13 pm
[..YouTube..] @atworldsend24 If a man were to walk around with his legs out, and to some extent without his top, its unlikley to make most women “want” him. If a girl has beautiful hair, good figure then it likely to make men lust over her. If he has bad intentions against her, eg. come onto her or rape her, it is easy for him as he is stronger than her. Basically, if a women covers herself, she removes some of this temptation, in some senses its a preventative. Not that all men are like that, just some!
May 24th, 2010 at 7:47 pm
[..YouTube..] yea .. so here’s my two cents .. banning the burqa is a really stupid idea. why ? if muzlims wanna wear that stuff let them .. i dont see how it affects anyone… until a good amount of criminals start using the burqa to actually commit criminal acts .. there’s no sense in banning it. and as far as our ‘religious freedom and tolerance’ goes .. how is it that some ppl wanna ban it ? isnt that intolerant and doesnt that say that a woman does NOT have the freedom to wear what she wants ?
May 24th, 2010 at 7:48 pm
[..YouTube..] and last but not least .. the thought that ‘they can see me but i can’t see them, isn’t fair’ .. is ridiculous .. does that mean that if a man takes his shirt off .. does he have the right to ask a woman to take hers off just because she can see his chest .. but he can’t see hers bcuz she’s covering it ????? lmao ..
May 24th, 2010 at 7:49 pm

May 25th, 2010 at 8:04 am
[..YouTube..] well the first questio you have to ask about ‘the burka” is: is it litterarly written in the quoran & do other muslim countries like, indonesia, turkey & markokko for example allow to wear the burka or headscarf? For marokko & turkey: they are BANNED. So why is there a fuss about it? because radical islam, present in the west, is using this as an excuse to stirr up the muslim community
May 25th, 2010 at 8:09 am
[..YouTube..] Another question is: how are women treated in islam & how are they depicted in the quoran? Comparing these things the evidence will show that these burka’s & headscarfs area suppression tool that muslim men use against women. You have to see where free will begins & ends and where indoctrination starts.BTW in some belgium villages there ARE already banns on burka’s just because these women were connected with al quaida sleeper cells that had an connection with the bombings in madrid

June 1st, 2010 at 6:04 am
[..YouTube..] @Knight785 LOL it IS banned because i was there in indonesia, in maroko & in Turkey! ROFL Also i checked out the laws that 99% of you ignorant brainwashed muslim lovers haven’t even seen or thouhgt of. & NO i’m not going to give you the sources on a silver platter. Don’t be a lazy SOB and do scientific research( if you even can) hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahai speak more languages then you do bub so go hump your neighbors leg.

June 2nd, 2010 at 2:53 am
[..YouTube..] @Knight785 yes i’ve been to all of these countries & more( not everybody is as poor as you.. oh wiat you gave all your money away to the jihadist cause .. yeah that explains a lot LOL)I write the name’s country as I see fit.& still avoiding the central point(typical reaction when someone is on the defensive).. whitch was: other islamic countries doesn’t apply the burka & have banned it( no reaction from muslims) so why not the west because its NOT our western culture. [..YouTube..] This law is for everyone not jut Muslims. Muslims stop trying to make yourself feel special. You Muslims juuuuuuuuuuuust don’t get it do you? What with your biased Islamic outlook, you just cannot see the other point of view.
June 8th, 2010 at 9:17 pm
[..YouTube..] I walk into a bank with my motorcycle helmet placed on top of my head, I am breaking the law. Yet someone walks in covering themselves in a piece of cloth its fine! WTF!! No wonder we have so many robberies in Europe with people in burqas robbing banks. Two in France just recently and one in Wembley in London, this is a MAJOR security threat right now
June 8th, 2010 at 9:19 pm
[..YouTube..] And it is also anti-social, you don’t need a Phd in Psychology to understand that the FACE is vital in social interaction, so why the f@@k do you cover it up when out in society! And also how do you expect to work among others, so your also economically limited. Hijab is fine of course because it is practical and perfectly REASONable
June 8th, 2010 at 9:20 pm
[..YouTube..] While the rest of the world continues to emancipate those that have been systematically oppressed for centuries and even millennia, ie. women, homosexuals, ethnicities from the south etc. We, having gone through a rational enlightenment period in history as a result we now use reason to judge things, not primarily through a medieval and backward nonsensical dogma. We now see Christianity and the Bible for what it really is
June 8th, 2010 at 9:20 pm
[..YouTube..] Instead we use our GOD GIVEN REASON to enforce on matters of morality and ethics. To think that some people in this world still go by such religious oppressive spit! – shame on you. All your religions were driven by power hungry mob bosses, some of the most oppressive and vile people to ever tread the earth, conniving rampaging warlords they were
June 8th, 2010 at 9:21 pm
[..YouTube..] Thank GOD, yes GOD the real natural GOD (which has long been worshipped before power got involved) that we the law makers the dynamic modern world are above that. The Islamic culture is oppressive to women. Wake the fuck up you brainwashed zombies. Christianity is oppressive too. In fact, women have been oppressed in almost EVERY culture
June 8th, 2010 at 9:21 pm
[..YouTube..] Slowly but slowly women have been getting treated like first class citizens now, just like blacks have been slowly but slowly being treated as humans now in the UK, France, Holland, Australia, USA, Canada (not sure if Spain, Italy and the rest of Europe thinks so, but anyway things will CHANGE) If there is one thing you dogmatic followers of ignorance need to grasp is that the world and the universe is flux, so get with the f@@king programme CHANGE.
June 9th, 2010 at 12:54 am
[..YouTube..] Why is wearing the burqa seen as “men oppressing women” only? Are there not women who are just devout Muslims who want to follow their religion and dress modestly? If we are going to talk about men oppressing women, that shit happens everywhere. I’m sure men do oppress women who wear burqas, but to generalize like that is ignorant. This kind of oppression and double standards held on Muslims is not the answer.
June 9th, 2010 at 9:34 am
[..YouTube..] You haven’t understood it correctly. The WHOLE culture is oppressive, okay! Women are subservient to men period! Of course its the “womans choice” to wear it, she is part off this oppressive culture, she thinks the same way!
June 9th, 2010 at 9:40 am
[..YouTube..] Yes it is true women are still oppressed in the west, a lady may say yes its her “womans choice” to pose in front of page3 newspaper topless, get humiliated in the porn industry, lap dance her way through college. She may turn round and say its been entirely up to her and that she is liberated, but NO she is part of a western culture that still oppresses women
June 9th, 2010 at 9:53 am
[..YouTube..] But you can see the massive change that rational debate and action has had in progressively freeing women in western civilisation the past hundred years, dress codes, behavioural norms, work life, voting rights, property rights etc. through challenging nonsense cultural norms. Islam arrogantly refuses to adapt to anything. It is antithetical with the universe, outdated and would do better if it wasn’t here, or learn to adapt to the modern world, REALITY
June 13th, 2010 at 1:28 am
[..YouTube..] @ the resident;hey, I live in brooklyn too, I’m graduating from high school and I’m a muslim convert and to be honest, I feel very disrespected at this video. it is a womans right as a muslim to cover herself as she wants to. ‘burqa’ is the total covering w/the screen mesh that most women where in iraq, so get your facts straight. I’m sure you implied on niqab, that many muslim sisters wear, that’s the covering of face w/ out w/out her eyes shown..
June 13th, 2010 at 1:29 am
[..YouTube..] I’ve haven’t seen a woman in burqa only regular hijab (head scarf) or niqab, so I’ll let you know if I see a muslim sister with a burqa..its HER choice by religious freedom…
June 13th, 2010 at 1:31 am
[..YouTube..] to let you know which I’m sure you haven’t known, the last holy book was the Quran. and the Quran states men and women are EQUAL. a muslim sister wears niqab if she chooses to for various ways. I wear hijab because I want people to respect me, my body, etc. religious jewish women have a very similar way of dressing. the ‘burqa’ is her choice, to be closer with God. so respect the fact its intended for God to cover her beauty. she’s a pearl with the shell as the covering.
June 13th, 2010 at 1:32 am
[..YouTube..] I’m not being argumentive, but you should respect not only a muslim womans values, but everyones religious keys to reach to God.

[..YouTube..] why is it so hard for us westerners to accept the way of life people have in other cultures… why do women wear burkas, why do sikh wear turbans, why do arabs wear turbans….. even hundred years ago our women wore full clothing as well. you gotta let people grow on their own Islam is 600 years younger than Christianity so you can imagine how Christians lived 600 years ago.. i can see the point of security with burka but banning HIJAB is totally nonsense you see their face all they way in tht
June 28th, 2010 at 2:25 am
[..YouTube..] Religious intolerance. People go all out saying you have a right to wear what you want but then they enforce these restrictions on things they don’t understand. Whats wrong with a woman covering themselves completely. They are following their religion and people who can’t understand that right have no right to ban what they want to do. They are not doing anything wrong. Their choice of how much they want to show themselves to the world.
June 28th, 2010 at 2:34 am
[..YouTube..] in oppose to everyone else showing a lot of themselves. If you don’t want to be seen, cover yourself properly too. But the whole biased reaction is not about the women wearing burgas. Its the people who misuse that… people cover themselves to thieve or other such crimes, maybe the concept of someone covering themselves for anything other then sinister reasons foreign… And I’m sure she has better things to do then stare at strangers.
June 28th, 2010 at 11:45 pm
[..YouTube..] 1) I do not agree with banning it becuase the person is concealing themselves. 2) I do not agree with banning it becuase its religious in nature, or any adjectives someone might apply to that religion.3) I think they are a symbol of a great insecurity that has been seeded into a culture via a misogynistic fundamentalist religion.4) I also think its a right to wear it as its a right to dress in head to toe motor cycle gear, or other such garb. Banning Garb is Dumb.
July 2nd, 2010 at 1:02 am
[..YouTube..] If they’re in court or being questioned, they should have to remove it. One’s face can determine one’s honesty. We must identify crime suspects’ faces. A private company has the right not to hire one unless they can see her face; the government shouldn’t interfere. If a private restaurant doesn’t allow face veil’s, that’s their right.
July 2nd, 2010 at 1:31 am
[..YouTube..] It’s not the Federal Government’s role to BAN IT IN PUBLIC. Under the Constitution, the Federal Govt. can’t restrict us unless we violate the rights of others or threaten national security. Each state decides whether to ban the burka. We are born w/ the unalienable right to freedom, but we CAN vote to give our state (Connecticut) specific powers over us (ban burka) in order to provide for the common welfare/security of the people of our state
July 4th, 2010 at 6:36 am
[..YouTube..] if belgium dudes argument is to b taken seriously we should ban video cameras, security cameras and closed circuit tvs as well cos they all allow others to see us and even record our movements without us seeing them.
July 4th, 2010 at 3:20 pm
[..YouTube..] When everyone says burqa they really mean niqab. The niqab is the face covering part of the burqa. I’m for banning the niqab and all face coverings on public property but not the burqa. The niqab is not even part of mainstream Islam.
July 7th, 2010 at 3:06 am
[..YouTube..] @patsybob,No, it’s not “the same principle”. A man looking at ladies through a peephole is perverted and is done with sexual intention, while a woman wearing a Burqa is a religious practice. Women don’t wear burqas to look at you, they wear them to please their God; they definitely don’t wear them in a perverted way, on the contrary, they wear them morally. Perhaps we should no longer allow motorcyclists to wear helmets since they can see us and we can’t see them, eh?
July 10th, 2010 at 5:05 pm
[..YouTube..] Only those Muslim females who wear burqas are Muslim females who wear burqas. It is incorrect to say – of those Muslim females who do not wear burqas – that Muslim females do wear burqas.
July 10th, 2010 at 5:27 pm
[..YouTube..] @iluvphysio You wrote: “i can see the point of security with burka but banning HIJAB is totally nonsense you see their face “The word ‘hijab’ – insofar as I have been given to understand – is applied to any of a number of different styles of identifed as being Muslim women’s attire (even including the burqa), but is alternatively also applied to what are different forms of head-coverings -
July 10th, 2010 at 5:27 pm
[..YouTube..] @iluvphysio – (including both those that do cover some amount of the wearer’s face and including those that do not cover any amount of the wearer’s face). It is, therefore, not necessarily the case that with all forms of hijab clothing the wearer’s face can be seen.
July 10th, 2010 at 5:40 pm
[..YouTube..] @yuae You wrote: ” Whats wrong with a woman covering themselves completely.”The wearing of the burqa is not just about any number of women covering themselves completely in various different sorts/ different articles of clothing, so that one burqa wearing individual could – if need be – be visually distinguished from any number of other burqa wearing individuals, and could be identified according to what is different about that burqa wearer’s appearance.
July 10th, 2010 at 5:41 pm
[..YouTube..] @yuae Not all burqa wearing individuals necessarily ARE MUSLIM, necessarily are female, and necessarily are NOT individuals who are wanted by legal authorities for having committed any number of violent crimes against any number of Muslim and/ or non-Muslim individuals.
July 10th, 2010 at 5:41 pm
[..YouTube..] @yuae The burqa – because of it being worn by multiple different individuals (making them all the same in regard to visible appearance), and because of how much of the wearer’s would otherwise be apparent features it hides – may be used as a disguise by ANYONE.
July 10th, 2010 at 5:50 pm
[..YouTube..] @yuae @yuae Unless it is a required part of any actual religion that the believers of that religion must wear the burqa it is not an example of religious intolerance for anyone to oppose the wearing of the burqa.
July 10th, 2010 at 5:52 pm
[..YouTube..] @yuae Even if it is a required part of some religion or other that females believers – only and in particular – of that religion must wear the burqa, then anyone who views any and all such gender specific rules as being sexist, and who objects to the requirement on those grounds – as well as objecting to any and all similar secular and other religious rules on those SAME grounds cannot rightly be accused of being intolerant of religion in regard to that issue.
July 10th, 2010 at 5:55 pm
[..YouTube..] @yuae In other words: being opposed to sexism – BOTH where it is and where it is NOT part of any religion or more – IS NOT being religiously intolerant. It is being intolerant of sexism – regardless of where that sexism appears.

[..YouTube..] American should understand this : France is a laïque country so WE DON’T WANT SEE ANY OSTENSIBLE RELIGIOUS STUFF.If someone don’t know what mean “laïque” or “laïcity” you should open a dictionnary. Our country was founder on this fondamental principe.
July 13th, 2010 at 9:01 pm
[..YouTube..] ban it
July 14th, 2010 at 12:31 pm
[..YouTube..] i think its just a giant heap of something else. Mind control and religious and mumbo jumbo.
July 14th, 2010 at 9:58 pm
[..YouTube..] Some Muslim women claim that they like the burka, but they only like it because they think it pleases Allah and will get them into Paradise – and they only think THIS because oppresive, savage men have told them so. It’s a vicious circle of brainwashing and gullibity. Soon the world will grow out of religion, and humans will finally be allowed to prosper.
July 15th, 2010 at 11:58 am
[..YouTube..] france is right, the usa should do the same.”when in rome do as the romans do” ring a bell?
July 16th, 2010 at 2:28 pm
[..YouTube..] i dont think it should be banned. however, it should be illegal to drive while wearing one and you would have to take it off to engage in any public transaction or job. That way you dont have fools in masks at the bank or in the work force. If they want to wear that outfit and mope around on their own time, however, no one has any right to stop them. Everyone should ridicule them but that’s something else entirely. Its free speech.
July 16th, 2010 at 6:31 pm
[..YouTube..] My god you are ignorant, this is the problem with the overly tolerant people like yourselves. If you want to keep your freedoms as a women including being able to wear what you want, you should not support anything Islamic. When you are indoctrinated with the beliefe that you are going to burn in hell for not protecting your modesty, do you really believe that they are choosing to wear the Burqa?
July 16th, 2010 at 6:37 pm
[..YouTube..] Don’t you believe in giving Muslim women more confidence? The Burqa is nothing more than symbolism for a mans dominion over his wife. The whole purpose of the Burqa is to stop other men finding their wives attractive, because apparently according to them women are incapable of not cheating on their husbands.Freedom in western democracy should be about western freedom, not the freedom for every culture to do what they want. If you truly want to live in a free country you should integrate.
July 18th, 2010 at 9:17 am
[..YouTube..] 1) supposedly the “Burqa” and the “Hijab” are not religious requirements in Islam: therefore, “religious freedom” does not apply 2) any criminal can easily hind under such ton of cloth concealing one’s face: danger potential3) obey the law of the country you are in, respect their customs
July 19th, 2010 at 11:14 am
[..YouTube..] The problems here are England are they banned large hoods “hoodie” type clothes because they hide faces and are a security risk, yet they say it is un-British to ban what people want to wear, such as the burka..
July 19th, 2010 at 12:51 pm
[..YouTube..] no comment reply here from you either.
July 22nd, 2010 at 2:24 am
[..YouTube..] @gabrielthomas84 And funnily, 2/3 of british citizens actually are in favor of a ban. So Cameron just insulted his own people by calling them un-british.
July 22nd, 2010 at 2:54 am
[..YouTube..] @shabbarankin OK it is intolerant from your perspective. Then every single nation on this planet must look intolerant to you since they have laws to prevent nudity wich was the only dress code of billion years of our ancestors until they started wearing things. I think soverign nations have a right to determine what is totally against their cultural code and what they can possibly tolerate or not. For instance France is the world capital of naturism. Is it popular in the US and Afghanistan? No
July 27th, 2010 at 10:04 pm
[..YouTube..] well if you want to make it fair then wear a burka!sheesh what kind of a twisted logic is that! i bet a playboy model would get far saying ‘oh you can see my bits but i cant see yours!’ what nonsense!and about the things you like to do… well.. why dont women with burkas trade their dignity for a clown suit and run around like idiots! good job in conveying a logical arguement… not.
July 28th, 2010 at 6:31 am
[..YouTube..] Actually.. Women can barely see out of the Burqa. The vale they wear is usually so thick that it’s like losing your periferals, having a net infront of your eyes that both blurs your vision and stops you from being about to see metres away from you.And think about it… Why would a muslim would say, “No I fucking hate this shit. It’s puts enormous muscle strain on my neck, I can’t see, it’s hot, uncomfortable and I have no personal identity” If it’s so possible that their religion has…

[..YouTube..] Brainwashed them, or their husbands would beat them if they opposed it.Like honestly. They come from a community that is so difficult for us to understand and relate to. They have completely different ethics, morals, the men have high testosterone levels than the average caucasian, the talaban has so much power and control for their own egotistal needs and everyone fears it.It’s not like our society one little bit. So it’s a little difficult for us to just say “YEAH BAN IT!”
July 31st, 2010 at 5:14 pm
[..YouTube..] It is not compulsory in the Quran to wear the Burqu. It is much more an issue of personal choice and freedoms. Freedoms exercised by wearing the Burqu are for example. It is my choice not to integrate. It is my choice to isolate myself from your society…This all seems ok, but I think that may be partly because it is women that are wearing them. What if men wanted to start wearing them. Burqas are NOT compulsory in the Quran. They are statements about themselves and how they view society.
August 1st, 2010 at 3:15 am
[..YouTube..] it shouldnt be banned.
August 2nd, 2010 at 5:48 pm
[..YouTube..] People usually only discuss ‘hijaab’ in the context of women. However, in the Glorious Qur’an, Allah (swt) first mentions ‘hijaab’ for men before ‘hijaab’ for the women. The Qur’an mentions in Surah Noor: “Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.”[Al-Qur’an 24:30]

[..YouTube..] Not only ban the burka, but ban the Muslims from the West. They ruined their nations with Islam, and now they wish to move into the beautiful Western World. We don’t want their pollution here.
August 6th, 2010 at 7:37 pm
[..YouTube..] lol… ok, I agree about banning the burqa, BUT… with one condition. The banning will also include the makeup, silicone implants, botox, etc…@ 0: 47 “not compatible with an open, liberal, TOLERANT society”What? Hmm….@ 1:59 “wow she can see me but I can’t see her (…) is that fair?”That’s like saying “wow your face/lips/nose/boobs/ass/body is doctored, mine isn’t. Is that fair?” …So what do you think?
August 13th, 2010 at 6:02 pm
[..YouTube..] @AbdulHamid99 Islam should be banned.
August 14th, 2010 at 8:20 am
[..YouTube..] they should ban the burqa in public places and buildings (banks, public transport etc.).in the UK it is against the law to cover your face in a bank, the law should apply to EVERYONE, regardless of what your religious beliefs are. here in the UK the woman who wear the burqa say they have the right to wear what they want, however i believe that the public also have the right to feel safe. and what if burqa wearing woman was to commit a crime? they would be unidentifiable. how is that fair?
August 19th, 2010 at 4:52 am
[..YouTube..] Fuck the burqa; it’s a hideous fucking piece of garb intended for the sole purpose of a muslim man hiding his wife’s face so as to ease his jealous mind. They should show their faces in our society, no matter what. Most of them as so damn ugly that any fool who even entertained the thought of usurping them from their owner (husband) should be shot anyway, for no other reason than he has bad taste. Don’t bring that fucking filth to the west – we’ve had enough of the shit. Burqa off or fuck off!
August 23rd, 2010 at 5:37 pm
[..YouTube..] @J1NX1337 That’s stupid. No religion is insisting women get botox, etc. and having these things does not make one unrecognizable – it CHANGES their looks but you still RECOGNIZE them.
August 23rd, 2010 at 5:39 pm
[..YouTube..] @positionnormal71 If you want to “isolate” yourself from our society than go live back wwhere your own came from. How incredibly RUDE for Muslims to take advantage of our free Western systems and then state they don’t want to mix with us.
August 23rd, 2010 at 7:35 pm
[..YouTube..] ban the burqa!
