This one goes out to Casey Williamson, who figured this out well before me. What is this, you ask? It’s the fact that I am doing MORE than my part in reducing my carbon footprint by not having kids. Which makes total sense, don’t you think? Right from the get-go, new people are a mess on the planet. Diapers, bottles, plastic toys that they get sick of in ten minutes, all that extra food, Christmas presents…you name it, kids consume it. Having a kid doubles a person’s carbon footprint. And most people do it, so it should kind of be factored in to a normal person carbon footprint. I, however, have not had a kid, so I have cut my carbon footprint in half, essentially. See how that works? Ok, that’s funny, I know. There is truth in it, but mainly it’s pretty funny to me. What’s NOT funny is the man’s continual call-to-action for people like you and me to alter every aspect of our lives to help reduce the impact of humans on the planet. The bottom line is, it’s up to governments and big-business to make the biggest difference of all. As long as big companies keep stocking their shelves with crap and making cars that are clunkers and doing whatever they want, basically, in the name of profit, then people will still buy this stuff. It’s there. Not buying it won’t un-make it, won’t take back the toxic byproducts that were created while making the crap. Honestly, it’s up to big businesses and governments to make REAL change, and it’s up to the media to broadcast that message and demand. Otherwise, it’s all just more schlock being shovelled to the little guy. Like me. Until that happens, I’ll stay childless and consider my part MORE than done, thank you very much.

The corporations will not do any of it unless it makes them money. They won’t do it out of patriotism because there is no American corporation, they are all international with no allegance to anything but gold. The government won’t make them do the right thing because the international corporations own the government. People have to get smarter and use their vote to take the country back or nothing will be done. We can wake both partes up in 2010 by removing every repugnican possible.

Sorry, but, you missed a small point. I agree on most of what you said but it IS up to us to demand these changes by writing, phoning, emailing and, yes, even mailing your representatives and the corporations from which we buy all of that crap!They keep selling crap because we keep buying it.

Companies give people what they want. Of course companies push their products but they do not have a gun to our heads. As long as Americans continue to consume in excess, we will continue to destroy ourselves. We need to shift focus from materialism and the greed of over consumption. Do we need 3 cars per family?

Yes, it is up to you!They can make it and change it,but if people are not buying and using it,then the chang can not happen.They are trying get people more aware and accepting of the direction of change we need to be headed in. They can make solar panels, hybrids, etc. However you have to buy it.

If we only went by what we need then we can say all I need is a car to live out of and perhaps a box for my kids. That is not doable because materialism makes our lives better not worse.

Has anyone here ever tried recycling a #7 recyclable? It isn’t easy. Also, has anyone noticed recycling bins dumped in dumpsters with garbage cans? The responsibility of the powerful beings is to ensure we have the proper tools to recycle, wherein the responsibility that recycling gets done is left entirely up to the individuals. This is why I disagree with this video.

but by paying attention to “hollywood” and “the government” you are supporting their bottom line, which is “make money” and not “save the world”. stop lending (monetary, societal, mental, physical, etc) support to these things and they will shrink. stop buying, stop voting, stop supporting.about 50% of america has realized that voting doesnt work or make a difference or help the situation. its not apathy, its enlightenment: the government is not for us.stop contributing to this problem
