So, this little political video was my first to appear on the YouTube homepage, and consequently it was the first to get a whole lotta social networking website hate. Which is funny to me, because I think it’s kind of just a fact that the health insurance system in the United States is seven kinds of socially messed up. I’m not the first to make a political video on this particular issue. Drug companies are way up in politicians pockets through some heavy-duty lobbying, so the price of medication is through the roof. And insurance companies charge through-the-roof premiums that most individuals never see a return on. All this expensiveness drives up doctors’ prices. It all adds up to a lot of people not having insurance and not getting the care they should be able to get in a country where it’s readily available — just not affordable or economical. What to do, what to do? I’m at a loss why some people think it would be absolutely disastrous for our government to ensure healthcare coverage for all of its citizens, but I’m guessing it goes back to conservatives not wanting people to get taxed or blaming liberals and their stupid taxes for them not getting a new Ski-Doo this year. Ok, that’s pretty funny to me, right there. I’ve never written anything so pro-tax before. Ha! You know what? I happen to get taxed a LOT of my money, just about 40%. I live in the state with the highest taxes, AND I live in a city that has an additional tax upon my state taxes. You hear that, people in Illinois crying over taxes? I get taxed THREE TIMES. And I’m still pro-taxes. Because I still think it’s better to have a government helping its less-fortunate citizens than for me to have a Ski-Doo. NO MATTER HOW HARD I WORK. And I work really, really hard. Wow. This is my biggest digression yet. Whatever. Call me a socialist. A countercultural revolutionary. I care not. (Ok it would be cool if you called me that, honestly.) I think the government should get involved with protecting the healthcare options of each and every one of us in this society. Because poor people get more cancer and should have access to all the options that the Elizabeth Edwards of the world do, too. PS I’m a total fan of John Edwards. That’s not the point, either. I’m done. Just watch the video. It’s much funnier than this rant would lead you to believe.

Many years ago, there stood 2 Scandinavians, on a beach in Newfoundland. One asks the second, shall we say it when we get home. no no. says the other, then it will just swarm, with wacky Europeans. they will surely create a nation where it is more important to have a lot of guns, instead of just being able to go to the doctor, without getting a huge bill, so they sailed back to Denmark & Norway. in good conscience. Then came an Italian. What happened then …. Danish humor.

good point about private insurance companies…and I’m sorry about your g/friends situation. I’ve been there plenty times before. And yes, they will try to find the fine print etc, to “avoid” paying out.However, here in USA there are options:Charity care in a Hospital she can apply for it.Depending on her state there are income guidlines regarding health care for EACH state. Did she know that. Example: I was out of work for 8 months and my home state picked up full care for me & my child

In Canada, my ‘health tax’ in my tax bracket works out to about $300 when I do my taxes. Being a resident of Ontario, I get an automatic credit of $5000. So truly, I pay nothing. Now be careful you Americans, Obama’s health care plans are not like ours. It is stenched with deligation for the fittest, and don’t forget the shadow produced when he is instigating “dying with dignity” counselling for all seniors!!! Be careful.

what i dont get is how nations with universtal health care’s economy IS STABLE if they dont control their population. this is what im saying: with uncontroled population = bad economy. i.e America that’s why nixon turned it into BUSINESS because 70or more % make the poor ( so they are selected to die) so the rich (valuable) LIVE. Ehhhh things that should be covered are procedures that would help with someone’s health…things like breast implants, botax, or sex changes should not be covered. It is not necessary and it wouldn’t risk their life if they didn’t have it or not

My opinion: Take responsability for our own health! Take charge. Realize our Health care system is corrupt and go back to basics. Whole foods, more raw, get off our lazy buttocks and move. The only care I see needed is for Broken bones & emergencies..appendix bursting, etc. Heart surgery..come on, quit stopping at Mc Donalds!! Lay off the constipating cheese, quit eatting so much, CHEW YOUR FOOD! And Rest! Your body is the temple of God, treat it that way!!

Nothing is free unless doctors, nurses, surgeons and hospitals work for free which they don’t, gov. can’t provide free anything. It all gets paid for through taxes.

[..YouTube..] Except a lot of Canadians come to the US of A to get big procedures done because they have to wait an astronomically long time for what would be a routine procedure here. Americans pretty much have it good here. In Canada you can’t just walk into a hospital and get in to see the doctor right away. The triage has to make the determination whether you are ill or not just by looking at you. If they don’t feel you are, your SOL!

Boycotting does work! Remember when gas prices were $5 / gal.? We stopped buying gas and it went down. O.K., so it took a recession to do it, but the result was the same. So send a message to your health insurance company! Boycott! Stop paying your health insurance premiums! Power to the people!

[..YouTube..] That is a symptom you are describing. Being American, you probably aren’t aware of the ‘brain drain’ that occurred in the 1990s where 25% of our doctors moved to the USA for “money”. Also, with $5,000 sign ons, many nurses did as well, esp. border cities. I can see a doctor within 15 minutes at any clinic, swipe my card, xrays, visit, everything is covered. Some failings in our system? Perhaps. But if I bring my child in, I never have to do anything more than swipe her card and walk in

[..YouTube..] True. And yes we’re taxed to death up here… but when I do my income tax, my ’share’ for health tax when calculated by income is maybe $300. That’s for a whole year! That is almost the exact same amount I had to pay in the 1980s when it was under old regulations. Covers a splinter to heart surgery. Swipe a card and hassle free sounds good. I’ve been in Canada my whole life and have yet to run into a single problem described in these comments.

You can’t honestly believe your share is only $300since that is an additonal tax for Ontario citizens and doesn’t have anything to do with your coverage. You’re not counting all the levies and fees imposed on everything else. It’s all pointless to me anyways, I would argue that it is unconstitutional to force citizens of the U.S into a contract as a prerequisite of living in America.

She recently had to undergo an op leaving her indebted to the tune of around $5000, a debt she cannot afford and for which she is now being chased. This op would have been free (at point of source) in Europe (as is all treatment.) Millions of Americans are losing their homes as a consequence of the egregious cost of health. Reform cannot come soon enough.

And we are covered regardless of age and health conditions, I find it acceptable. If I were unemployed and contributed NOTHING, I’d still be covered as a Canadian. You are wrong, this is not a prerequisite. You can go ahead and pay if you want, or buy some insurance, it’d be your headache nobody elses.

[..YouTube..] I thing you just made my point. The $300 is an ADDITIONAL TAX for some provinces. How can a system sustain itself if you have people receiving benefits and not contributing? By additional taxes! Also, there are options to get free or at least discounted or subsidized healthcare here already, and that IS a fact. I know alot of people that use them. Again, it’s all pointless anyway and I’m not wrong, it’s unconstitutional to force U.S. citizens to enter a contract or risk breaking the law.

I know a girl in the UK and a gentleman in Canada and they don’t really rave all that much about their health system. It’s a complex problem with no easy solution. “Free” health care is a sham, there is no “free” health care. Pay now, (USA) or pay later (elsewhere), but in the end you’re gonna pay.

Also, Fact: Each state has their own income guidlines for healthcare if you make under a certain amount. The alternative is we move to Canada or UK and pay HIGHER taxes and have our fate in Big Brothers hands. Weigh the options? Pay now or pay later. Either way, sir, it’s not free.

I live three houses away from a woman born and raised in England, and she told me point blank, their insurance is nothing to rave about. [..YouTube..] Here in germany we have Health insurance since “Health Insurance Bill of 1883″ and it still works. Not even USA didnt stop it when they were in charge from 1945 to 1949 (Federal Republic of Germany was founded) 50% is payed by the employee and 50% by Employer. In Case of unemployment the state has to pay. 77% of the germans are statutory health insured and 23% private insured. And it is still working and worked for more than 125 Years. And we have no socialism here, sorry.

[..YouTube..] Not a fan of this video. EVERYONE NEEDS HEALTH-CARE! IT’S A RIGHT NOT A PRIVILEGE! I’ve been very sick since February, and need to get some major tests done, and can’t get it done, because I’m poor and have no insurance. I’ve been trying to get health care from the state, but it’s taking FOREVER! I’m starting to get very SCARED!

[..YouTube..] @MatthewCuro1978 Sir, most hospitals have what is called charity care, you can apply for this. As long as you’re not a junkie or what not you shouldn’t have a problem. The problem is insurance companies, NOT private physicans. Most are more than willing to cut you a break if you don’t have health coverage. M. Moore likes to tell one side, one piece of a large puzzle, the guy likes a rigged game. Best of luck.

Insurance agents have no business making health care decisions and the only reason they do make health care decisions now is because the rich owners here hate the working class. They resent us because they need us and we are a constant reminder that the vast majority of the uber wealthy didn’t earn a dime of their wealth.

[..YouTube..] i live in the UK where the government and alot of people think they have some right to take the money of people who work so as to cure all the woes of society and it just dont work, the people who run our NHS are just as greedy as any healthcare ceo, the difference is they get our money unconditionally whether they are competent or not, with private, you choose if you want to pay for something and you choose the provider so there is competition and a motive for greedy people to provide a service
