From The Center for Disease Control’s (CDC’s) Website: Health insurance coverage improves access and quality of medical care and can contribute to the overall health of Americans. According to 2005 data from the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey and the National Hospital Ambulatory Care Survey, 14.8% (43.6 million) of Americans are uninsured. 19.8% (36.5 million) are adults and 9.2% (6.8 million) are children. (SOURCE: National Health Interview Survey, 2006) The visit rate for patients with no insurance was about twice that of those with private insurance in emergency departments. Conversely, patient visits to physician offices were higher for individuals with private health insurance compared to those with no insurance. Other recent data on health insurance from the National Health Interview Survey show slight increases in uninsured adults: In 2006, 14.8 percent of Americans, or 43.6 million, were currently without health insurance. Among working-age Adults (those ages 18-64), 19.8% did not have health insurance in 2006, an increase in the percent uninsured from 18.9% the year before. Approximately 9.3% of children under the age of 18 did not have health insurance in 2006, a non significant increase in the uninsured from 8.9% in 2005. Data from 20063also show differences in percentage uninsured by race and ethnicity: Almost a third (32.1 percent) of Hispanic people were uninsured when interviewed in 2006. While 10.4 percent of non-Hispanic white persons and 15.9 percent of non-Hispanic black persons were uninsured when interviewed. A person was defined as uninsured if he or she did not have any private health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), state-sponsored or other government-sponsored health plan, or military plan. A person was also defined as uninsured if he or she had only Indian Health Service coverage or had only a private plan that paid for one type of service such as accidents or dental care.

Each year I get my statement from the Social Security Admin. and end up depressed for months. My first job was the military–$8,000 the first yr, $12,500 in the 6th yr. Then 10 yrs in a steel mill, starting at 7.05/hr and ending 10 years later at $12.25/ hr.I have worked for 27 yrs and I always avg. those years on the SSI statement and last yr my avg. per yr, for the last 27 years, was $17,240.2008- made $9700 w/ $5400 for rent at $450/ mo. and had to drop out of electrical school…

Yea, tell me about bad parenting…The Irony is that my parents actually thought they were doing the best thing for us; they got some things right, about 10%, but the other 90% they got woefully wrong and I’m now left with the responsibility of building myself from scratch in spite of the regret about how many years I have lost.

Exactly. These, among other things, are what is known as “the commons”. The facets of a society that we, the citizens, decide to shoulder the cost of (or “subsidize”) together because we, in majority, agree that they are necessary for the continued well-being of the society as a whole. Without this effort of collective cooperation (the “we” society attitude), crimes, infernos, pestilence and illiteracy would run rampant as everyone just shrugs & says “oh well, better you than me . . . “.

Yeah!! Wasn’t she the one who got dropped because she forgot to mention that she had acne as a teenager on her health insurance application? She deserved to get dropped! How dare she omit something as rare and serious for teenagers as acne! It’s like she was trying to commit fraud. Meanwhile, the insurance company kept every penny of her money without having to provide a single good or a lick of service! Seems to me that the insurers made off with a *gasp* . . . free ride.

American taxes are very low. You pay 10% for the lower incomes and 30% for the higher incomes. Here in Holland it starts with 30%.. than it go’s up to 52% for the higher incomes.Everybody here is obligated to have a healthcare insurance. We think it’s our duty to take care of our citizens. That’s not socialism it’s called being social. Now USA has a statedebt of 250.000 dollar per citizen and we got 18.000 euro per citizen. Our unemploymentrates are less than halve of that in the USA.

Once we, as a country decided to allow “third party payment” on our healthcare, we gave up any control on pricing of medical care. You are right to mention Ann Rynd. Not because of personal responsibility but because we actually need to get back to paying our OWN medical costs. Charities can help out those who need help. If insurance companies are no longer there to fork out bucko bucks, medical practitioners will start to charge what people can afford.

Why doesn’t miss expert look at the bigger picture? Why is all our factory work (that offers full medical) going over seas so these fat rich people can get richer and not have to pay a decent wage? Its been known for a while now that NAFTA didn’t work. But the liberals have a great new idea to justify EVERYONE working at Lowe’s and Wal-Mart. By all means vote folks but take the time follow the agenda’s as well.
