If you’ve tooled around this site for a page or two, you’ve probably picked up that I have a liberal viewpoint, that I’m an open-minded, countercultural kind of girl concerned with social issues. Low on the bad –isms, like ageism, sexism, and racism. That is to say, I don’t hold much prejudice against pretty much any culture or individual. Or so I thought. It has recently come to my attention that I am, indeed, prejudice against one type of person. The ignorant type. When someone says the slightest thing with a certain level of ignoramusness, I’m immediately hatin’ on them. And I’ve recently decided that that’s just not right. Maybe that person is ignorant on a particular subject just because they’ve never encountered any previous experience with it. Like, I’m pretty ignorant about how knitting. And I could see myself saying something really ignorant about knitting like, “Man is knitting like the most boring thing to do with your time or what?” How would I know? I’ve never knitted. So, I’ve decided to try to work on my prejudice against bird-brains. Because there are plenty of times when I am the bird-brain. No, don’t gasp and shake your head so violently. It’s true. And I promise to try to be better. So, what are YOU prejudice against? There’s got to be SOMETHING. Let me know your two cents on this social issue.

do you understand the difference between hatred and discrimination? hatred does not hurt anyone, discrimination does. hatred is not illegal, disc is. hatred is subjective, disc is objective. oh and by the way, you live in a free country which means you have the freedom to get your feelings hurt— keep in mind being offended is also subjective and requires your own participation!!!!

I think no matter what the color of your skin may be, we all have gone through some sort of discrimination. Yes, I have been discriminated b4 and it made me feel..a whole mix of emotions. Good point about education being part of the solution. I think the whole reason people discriminate is due to their own ignorance plain and simple. You’re only making yourself stupid by quickly judging and generalizing a whole group of people because of your lack of knowledge about them

If you can’t judge a person by their lifestyle, then you can’t really judge them at all. Basically, what you’re saying, TheResident, is that YOU can judge someone based only on what YOU believe is an objective enough criteria, but that no one else should make similar judgments. Gotcha.

Ok tried. Just realized I’m a human being! And human beings have been using patterns to discern reality since they became existed. Not judging is a great idea, but if you’re a human you’ve probably realized by now it’s impossible. So I judge based off someones content of character and their state of mind. I don’t think that’s so awful.

I was about five years old, playing in a large tire in a near by park. Two African American girls (I’m white) came up to me and told me that I couldn’t play in the tire because I had “white people hair”.
