Charity: Water
December 23, 2009 143 CommentsThere are a lot of charities out there who do lots of amazing, great work. Sometimes, though, it’s hard to know exactly what a charity does or where your money is going. That’s not the case with Charity Water, whose mission it is to get clean drinking water to the one billion people on the planet who don’t have it. That’s it. Get water to people who need it. What’s more basic than that? Sure, it’s nice to help little girls have more self-esteem or send young boys to camp, but if you don’t have water you die. It’s as simple as that. Something like 80% of all diseases are spread because of a lack of clean water, or something like that. I forget the real figure, but luckily Scott Harrison, founder of Charity Water, has it all down. They build wells and set up other types of water purification schemes to make sure people get water. To drink, to wash their hands in, to live. Check out his organization at mycharitywater.org. With 1 billion people in need of water, it’s pretty much, to me, the most crucial charity of all. They are also a 100% model, meaning every dime a person donates to them goes directly toward the cause. And they’re also committed to proving that through photos and GPS tracking.
