Feminism, Schmeminism

One of the names people like to call me on social networking sites, which I find extremely irritating, is a feminist. Why does this bother me? Isn’t feminism a good thing? I mean, it’s basically a social responsibility movement bent on giving men and women should have equal social, political, and economic rights (Texas accent here, please) in the face of the law. That makes sense. By that cultural standard, I guess I am a feminist. But when people say it, a lot of time they mean it with the connotation of a bra-burning angry lesbian. They make it sound like a conservative versus liberal thing, or a dirty liberal cause. I am concerned with none of all that. I loves my menfolk. I like the way they keep things generally straight-forward. Most of the time they use their words properly; they say what they mean instead of lying to you or telling you they don’t know what they want when they do (like we chicks oftentimes do. Can I get an amen, fellas?!). So why does calling a feminist often come off as an insult? Like, I’m being called some kind of countercultural butch crazy person? Or, why do I take it that way? I think it must be because some people really are sexist, still. But really, guys: not me. I don’t even want you to shave your chests. Ever. K? That settled? So why do you think feminism became a bad thing, at least in one connotation or another? Do we have a social responsibility to stand up for women’s rights still, or is it moot in today’s world?

  1. [..YouTube..] I think your statement shows your ignorance on the issues and the hypocrisy of your ideals. Chivalry is fine when the women benefit at the expense of men but when men benefit as a result of their own effort it is labeled sexism.Equality is not created through lower standards and affirmative action programs. It is not created by minimising the importance of a father’s role in parenting. And it is not created by elevating one group over another because women want to feel worshipped or special.

Like a boys club. Besides, I don’t have any temptations other than my girl then (: not in the workplace anyway

[..YouTube..] An exception might be the lack of male teachers in school. Just as girls understand women better than they do men, boys understand men better than they do women. I think the inequity in gender distribution in early school teachers is causing an attitude problem towars school amongst the boys. I certainly had no one to look up to in school.. all those film heroes, they don’t stay in school, do they? And you make a fabulous host. Despite gender averages we are all individuals..

[..YouTube..] In my dear home country Norway, most radio hosts and debaters over the airwaves and debaters are women, because our community loves to subsidice the female gender.. nevertheless most of the good ones are male. The studies show a higher % of the men in that job enjoy their job.It goes the other way around for nannies and elementary teachers.I don’t think men and women are completely alike. If a woman wants to be an electrician, I’ll welcome her, but most don’t, and I don’t wanna push them..

[..YouTube..] Feminism is an old, last century term that does not stand for equality. “HUMANISM” is the new present century term that means equality for all. The term humanism is neutral to men, women, to all races etc. Welcome to the next step in our evolution. Please use the word humanism or humanist for equality for all.
