Hair!

Hardly rich social commentary, thought-provoking video action here. This episode of my little web talk show is pretty frivolous. But sooo many people comment on my hair, I thought I’d dedicate an episode to it. Not to MINE specifically, but to everyone’s tresses: what they do with them, do they like ‘em, any cultural trends for locks, and all that kind of good stuff. I hit the streets of Brooklyn for this one, too, because we all know how Brooklynites are the best for interesting comments that don’t necessarily qualify as social commentary but make for hilarious video. One of the biggest shocks to me that I got while making this is learning that not a lot of people know the word, tress. So weird! I totally thought everyone knew that one. Also, not surprising but still fun to hear: a lot of people spend a lot of time each and every day whipping their hair into really ugly shapes and styles. Isn’t that weird, too? I mean, people actually spend a lot of time to make ugly hairstyles, and if they don’t get the ugly style right, they feel ugly all day long. None of this video constitutes as enlightening, culturally important, or educational, I think. Unless people look back on it in years to come to see what our hairstyles said about our culture in the early part of the 21st Century. I’d love to see THOSE people’s hairstyles, the ones in the future looking back at ours. What do you think future hairstyles will look like, in the year, say, 2400? I’ll have to cover it on my web talk show in the future.

  1. [..YouTube..] I don’t think it’s a coincidence that she choose to interview people who are of African descent. Styling hair is a part of the culture!

[..YouTube..] Her videos are not too educational. She interviews people, many of them who simply reiterates stereotypes and ignorant statements. Now she’s talking about hairs??

  6. [..YouTube..] people dont know how to be modest anymore, especially women. why does it matter what your hair looks like, i care more about a woman’s mind and heart than her hair and clothes . . . but I guess if you’re not Muslim you wont understand that.
