Reality TV Sucks

You will see my hair in this thought-provoking video, and you will know how old this bad boy of social commentary video action is. The fact that the message rings clearer with time makes me proud. I set out on the streets of New York City back in 2001 or 2002 to talk to people for a grassroots approach about the burgeoning phenomenon of reality TV, to see which shows they were watching and whether they thought the genre was a fad or a beacon of the end of our society as we know it. My hypothesis at the time was that the premises of reality TV shows were just going to get more heinous and more apocalyptic as they progress, and that’s pretty much happened. “The Moment of Truth,” FOX’s reality show which straps people into lie detectors and makes them reveal their innermost secrets on national TV in the hopes of getting piles of money, has already led to a suicide. That pretty much is a touchdown right there, eh Mr. Murdoch? I’m still waiting for the show like the kind envisioned in Stephen King’s “Running Man.” We probably have at least another decade or two until that happens, though. So what kind of shows will we see up until then? Any ideas? Come on. Tell my little grassroots web talk show here. I know you can think of some doozies.
