Apparently, Mark Twain’s “Huckleberry Finn” is going to be reprinted with the N-word being removed. All 200+ instances of it. Whaaaa?
It’s easy for me to say censorship is NEVER a good thing, but I’m not an African American. I am not descended from people who were enslaved, so it’s hard for me to grasp just how offensive that word might be. I mean, as a woman I’ve been subjected to many sexist words that were meant purely to offend me, but I just kind of think it might be different when you add in a history of slavery.
At the end of the day though, for me the bottom line is: if someone wants to use a racist or sexist or anything-ist word, they should be allowed to do so. It only makes them look stupid and shows them for what they are. And personally, I always think that’s an advantage for me.
What do you think? Should it be removed? See what others think in this segment I did for RT.com.
